Weather and Climate in Mekong Delta

Weather and climate in Mekong Delta, useful information for tourists to choose the best time to enjoy wonderful discovery in Mekong Delta region.

The Mekong Delta, as a region, lies immediately to the west of Ho Chi Minh City, roughly forming a triangle stretching from My Tho in the east to Chau Doc and Ha Tien in the northwest, down to Ca Mau and the South China Sea at the southernmost tip of Vietnam, and including the island of Phu Quoc. If you want discover MeKong, you should keep the user’s guide for future reference.
Weather and climate in Mekong Delta
The Mekong Delta is a low-lying coastal region in the South of Vietnam and it is particularly susceptible to floods resulting rises in sea level due to climate change.
According to the prediciton of the Climate Change Research Institute at Can Tho University, in studying the possible consequences of climate change, many provinces in the Mekong Delta will not only suffer from drought brought on by seasonal decrease in rainfall but also be flooded by the year 2030. The provinces of Ben Tre and Long An are predicted to be the most serious cases, of which 51% and 49%, respectively, are expected to be flooded if sea levels rise by 1 meter.
Like Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong Delta Region has a pleasant tropical climate with two alternate seasons. The dry season begins from November to April with average temperatures around 280C and from May through October is the rainy season. The rain, however, never lasts too long while the sun is not too hot.
Best time to visit Mekong Delta
The dry season from November to January is considered to be the best time to visit the region, which is also the coolest time of year in often sweltering Southeast Asia. If you are traveling to the river's headwaters, in China, the month of September is your best time. Except for the mountainous colder parts of Yunnan and Myanmar, the weather in the region is at its most comfortable during this time. However, this also means that it is not easy for you to find accommodation.
In the hot season, from March to May, some places are very hot. If you travel to the region in this time, your journey may not be successful as you expect because some rivers are harder to navigate, and boat journeys in remote places may be accessible.
Though the raniy season, generally from June to September witnesses much rain, it is still the best time for many people to travel. The reson is that it never gets cold, and nearly all hotels and guesthouses have rooms available with the cheaper prices than that in high season.
